Dunnet Bay Distillers
Born of a long-held dream to return home to the rugged shores of Caithness, Dunnet Bay Distillers was founded in 2014 with the mission to create jobs for the couple so that they could live and work in the county of their birth and raise family there. Whilst success was always on the agenda they never dreamed that one day the business would employ fourteen people, win 2019 Scottish Gin Distillery of the Year at the Scottish Gin Awards, and be awarded Great Taste Awards for Rock Rose Gin, Navy Strength Gin and Holy Grass Vodka.
Like at the Torridon, authenticity sits at the heart of the Dunnet Bay ethos, spirit is hand-distilled slowly, thoughtfully and passionately to create their exceptional products using traditional copper pot stills, Highland water and hand-foraged botanicals sourced from the spectacular cliffs of the Pentland Firth, Dunnet Forest or grown in the distillery’s own garden.
Sustainability is also a shared core value with the distillery generating its own electricity using solar panels on the roof and Rock Rose Gin, is the first gin available in fully recyclable pouches that can be returned freepost via standard Royal Mail. Once at the distillery, the pouches will be passed on to be upcycled into new items.
In 2017 The resort’s relationship with Dunnet Bay Distillers reached a new level when the two family businesses collaborated on the Torridon’s very own gin Arcturus. During this process Dunnet Bay’s botanical expert Hanna worked with the team to identify botanicals from around The Torridon that give Arcturus its unique morish flavour.
Like gin and tonic, Dunnet Bay Distillers and The Torridon are a perfect partnership with a generous measure of shared values and similarities – Don’t forget to try Rock Rose Gin, Arcturus or one of the Distillery’s other excellent tipples next time you visit the resort!
